1. Definition

A fistula is an abnormal connection between two epithelial lined surfaces. In this case it is an abnormal connection between the anal canal and the skin surface.

2. Examples of fistulae


* Commonest fistulae- Ear piercing!
* Commonest fistulae in medical practice- entero-enteric fistulae, but many are clinically silent
* Commonest presenting fistula- fistula-in-ano

3. Classification of fistula-in-ano

* Best to classify them according to their relationship to the anal sphincters
* Subcutaneous + submucous - below sphincters
* Low - traverses only the internal sphincter
* High - traverses internal + external sphincter
* Intersphincteric -travels between the two muscles with the opening being at variable levels
* Pelvirectal - opens above the anorectal ring

Gastroparesis and Homeopathy

Cause: Gastroparesis is strongly linked with vagus nerve dysfunction caused by diabetes and surgery, but in many cases it remains unclear what caused gastroparesis. Vagus nerve control function of stomach mainly peristalsis movement of stomach and in gastroparesis peristalsis is reduced very much causing food to remain in stomach longer and not going forward to intestine where food is digested properly.




Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal fullness, abdominal pain, heartburn, lack of appetite



Management: Take small and frequent meals and check blood sugar regularly and control it tightly to help minimize gastroparesis' symptoms.



Homeopathic Treatment of Gastroparesis: There is no mention of gastroparesis in old classical homeopathic literature. There are some medicines indicated for paresis and these are Arsenic, China, Coca, and Conium.



Our masters (Clarke and Gentry) have used word stomach neurosis and gastric neurosis. Neurosis is a medical term which is not used today and in the past it was used mainly for mental disorders, but stomach neurosis and gastric neurosis seems linked to abnormal nerve function of stomach and the medicine for this condition is Phosphorus and Sangunaria.



As we know in gastroparesis, peristalsis is reduced to a great extent hence medicine causing decrease in peristalsis can be useful for gastroparesis and Lycopodium, Nux Vomica, and Arsenic Album are well indicated for this situation and can be used for gastroparesis if other symptoms agrees.
